Mike's 1999 Appalachian Trail Hike

The Appalachian Trail is a continuous marked footpath that goes from Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia, a distance of about 2160 miles.

Many trace the origins of the Trail to a 1921 article by Benton MacKaye entitled An Appalachian Trail: A Project in Regional Planning.

Mike is shown in this picture starting his April 1, 1999 assault on the Appalachian Trail. He started at the southern approach trail to Springer Mountain.

If you want to send him cookies, consult his Hiking Schedule. A map of the AT is also available for viewing.
